How will an IPO change Twitter?
Twitter has filed to go public recently, under the name TWTR. The IPO is set to raise up to $1 billion.
Founded in 2006, Twitter is an online social networking and microblogging service that allows users to post text-based status updates and messages(or better known as tweets) of up to 140 characters in length. As of early 2013, Twitter had more than 200 million monthly active users.
Twitter is taking the next critical step in its evolution. Unmistakably, Twitter’s initial public offering is among the most anticipated in recent years. It is one the most hyped and scrutinised IPO since Facebook’s Wall Street debut one and a half years ago. To be successful, the company will need to become an advertising powerhouse and prove that the same platform can also bring tremendous business value.

Hello Terrence,
Great article, honestly i’m on twiiter for a while, but lot of info here is totally surprised for me.
For example “Tweets that contain less than 100 characters receive 17% higher engagement than longer tweets – my opinion was exactly the opposite..
Thanks for this,
Jan Orsula
Hi Terrence,
That was nice and so informative and it’s real fact that Twitter is running with turtle steps but exactly right direction towards success. What you think?
Shorter tweets let you add your own info, comments to it when you retweet – which is probably why they get higher engagement. If you have to edit it to add comments, it’s a bit more work so might turn people off.
Hi Terrence,
some very interesting statistics you provided. For me 2-3 hastags change in rate of engagement was surprising and a very nice differrentiation of influence between RT and actual Retweet request, even though I do not like that much straigtforward ask for reshare.
Thanks
Hey Terrence,
Fantastic post and great infographics to go with it. Nowadays social media has become a 24 hours job especially with Twitter, you need to be quick with your responses. As you mentioned, Twitter users tend to engage with brands during weekends because they have much more time to spare then.
Most brands however are still to adopt this where they also tweet during weekends. Something like a Hootsuite or Buffer would thus be great tools to tweet during weekends. Answering customer queries will however be an altogether different piece of cake.
The stat that surprises me the most is the 17% improved engagement over the weekend – it’s the complete opposite for Facebook, which is very strange, assuming what I read was correct, of course.
Thanks Terrence.
